Making Tax Digital: Why you’re likely not affected (for now)

You might have heard about HMRC's Making Tax Digital for Income Tax starting in April 2026 and be wondering whether it applies to you.

Watch our short video with an update on your likely situation.

Based on what we know

From the information we hold, we don't believe you’re in scope for the new rules just yet.

This means you can carry on with your usual self-assessment process for now – nothing needs to change.

The new rules apply if your total income from self-employment, property, or both exceeded £50,000 in the 2024-25 tax year.

If you had other earnings we don't know about that would push you over the £50,000 threshold, please let us know by emailing MTD@hudsoncontract.co.uk

We’d be happy to help you prepare for Making Tax Digital if you are affected.
