Hudson Contract is closely monitoring government proposals to extend Right to Work checks to the self-employed.
Despite the recent U-turn on digital ID, Right to Work checks will still be required with companies facing fines of up to £60,000 per worker, business closures, director disqualifications and prison sentences of up to five years for non-compliance.
Hudson has already started carrying out Right to Work checks with a two-stage process to meet the current legal requirements.
Hudson has partnered with a Home Office approved provider to verify passports and Right to Work status, and carries out the all-important imposter checks that differentiate an ID check from a Right to Work check.
Ian Anfield, managing director of Hudson Contract, said: "The new requirement for full-blown Right to Work checks on the self-employed is yet another layer of red tape that the economy could do without. Anything that adds an administrative burden and delays starts on site will prove costly and unwelcome. Thankfully Hudson clients can rest assured that we have it covered, and that we will shield them from the worst of it and from the potentially huge liabilities for getting it wrong.”
