Hudson Apprentice Katelyn EYAA Awards Night

Award puts Hudson’s own apprentice Katelyn in the spotlight

14th July 2026 | Hudson Contract

When it comes to apprenticeships, Hudson Contract is best known for its flagship sponsorship scheme that makes it easier for construction firms to take on and train new recruits.

Now the company’s own apprentice Katelyn Murray has won a prestigious award for her outstanding contribution to the business.

The 19-year-old was named Professional Services Apprentice of the Year at the East Yorkshire Apprenticeship Awards, held at the MKM Stadium in Hull last month.

Katelyn joined Hudson in September 2024 and is an apprentice customer service advisor.

Hudson managing director Ian Anfield said: “Many congratulations to Katelyn. Next time clients call our office, they could be speaking to an award-winning apprentice.”

Senior accountant Marc Chapman, who is Katelyn’s manager, said: “From the very first day, she has shown incredible enthusiasm and a proactive approach to learning.

“Her ability to take the initiative has had a positive impact on our team’s productivity and has helped build great communication between her and the rest of the team.

“Katelyn hasn’t just completed tasks, but has sought to understand the ‘why’ behind them, which has helped her to gain skills in the accounting team much faster than expected.

“Taking on an apprentice allows you to provide invaluable experience in a working environment to someone that is keen to learn and gain a relevant qualification.

“They can achieve them while learning on the job and being mentored by experienced colleagues in a supportive workplace.”

Hudson business support manager Fiona Gamwell was highly commended in the ambassador category – a fitting recognition for someone who manages Hudson’s apprenticeship programme on behalf of the Hudson Foundation and is a long-standing member of the government-backed Apprenticeship Ambassador Network.

To date, Hudson has sponsored more than 300 apprentices through its sponsorship scheme. The family-owned company offers £3,000 per recruit and, as of last year, a £500 completion bonus.
