Hudson partners with IPSE to protect clients and consultants against upcoming IR35 tax rules

Hudson has joined forces with IPSE, the Association of Independent Professionals and the Self Employed, as the deadline approaches for changes to IR35 that will make clients responsible for determining the tax status of their freelancers – and liable for heavy financial penalties if HMRC deems they have made mistakes.
“IPSE was set up twenty years ago specifically to oppose IR35, and they continue to fight for its abolition,” says Hudson Contract Managing Director Ian Anfield. “We have had an association with them since 2015, to represent the 48,000 self-employed tradespeople engaged by us and ensure their collective voice is heard at policy level. Now Hudson Freelance has formally partnered with IPSE to help protect self-employed consultants and their clients.
“HMRC predicts most big firms that rely on freelance contractors will have to put a large proportion of them on the payroll from next April. And the cost of non-compliance could ruin a business whilst destroying opportunities for consultants, whose skills and flexibility are vital for a healthy and productive economy.”
“Hudson Freelance offers a tried and tested alternative, by way of our IR35-compliant contracts. Additionally, we will independently audit engagements. Moreover, our contracts are guaranteed and eliminate the financial risks of IR35, and therefore it will be business as usual for genuine freelancers, who can focus on doing what they do best – supplying specialist skills to help clients grow and prosper."
IPSE’s Andy Chamberlain adds: “We are delighted to be partnering with Hudson Freelance. The company’s services can safely protect legitimate freelancers and their clients against the worst effects of IR35, an unnecessary and damaging piece of legislation.”
