Hudson Contract in the Community: End-of-year report
10th December 2018 | Hudson Contract
As in previous years, we are happy to have been able to support a variety of local organisations and national charities during 2018. Here’s a quick round-up of some of those we’ve been helping:
Established in 2011, the Hudson Contract Apprentice Sponsorship Scheme continues to expand and flourish. We have now enabled 130 youngsters to take their first steps towards a career in construction, and firms that had sponsorship in the early years are now coming back and taking on their second apprentices. “The scheme makes a real difference towards people’s attitudes towards taking on apprentices, and treating their apprentices as a long-term investment,” comments Managing Director Ian Anfield.
Bridlington Rugby Club
We continue as one of the club’s main sponsor, with financial, marketing and design support. We place particular emphasis on developing younger players, and this year we’ve been funding Youth Development Officer Callam Sanderson who has been doing a huge amount of work with local schools, whose coaching sessions are now run by the club as part of games lessons.
Our donations have been used to fund several projects, including an annual countywide youth music event at Bridlington Spa, workshops for young people in music, dance and drama, an apprenticeship scheme designed to give professional development opportunities to school-leavers who are on the way to further education, and specialised projects for young people with special needs.
Other good causes this year include the gift of suitcases to a charity in Rotherham that helps children in care, to ensure they are not forced to put their possessions in bin bags when being moved from home to home.
We also continue with our donations to cancer charities, a cause very close to our hearts. And to mark the season of goodwill, we are again supporting 30 homeless people via Crisis at Christmas, who will provide:
- Three nutritious, hot meals daily, including a delicious Christmas dinner
- A bed for the night, if needed
- A chance to shower, freshen up and get clean clothes
- A health check and treatment from a doctor, optician and dentist
Hudson Contract Managing Director Ian Anfield observes: “We are fortunate to be running a successful business and it’s a priority for us to make a small difference to the lives of those who need a helping hand.”
