A. It’s always possible HMRC will come calling. In fact, it’s increasing likelihood, as the Revenue is currently taking a more aggressive attitude to towards the construction sector. So far as our clients are concerned, in some cases the meetings have lasted only a few minutes, reaching a swift conclusion – and a happy outcome – once Hudson Contract’s name is mentioned. For example, in 2008, a civil engineering client moved 160 lads from PAYE to CIS. Two years later, HMRC undertook a full status investigation of this contractor and concluded: “A large number of workers are provided through Hudson Contract. The information you have provided confirms the transfer and continuing engagement of these workers is in line with Hudson Contract’s usual practices. There is therefore no employment status for me to consider.” At the time of the investigation the contractor had over 500 operatives engaged on our contract.
A. Hudson Contract fully indemnifies you against the financial consequences if our contract should ever fail an HMRC investigation.
